Start Smart Texas has launched a free texting pilot that will provide tips for parents and caregivers to help children learn in everyday life. Parents of children who subscribe to the program will receive 3-5 text messages per week with information about child development. In addition, one message per week will include information about local activities, events, services and other resources.

Parents or caregivers can sign-up for the program by texting the keyword listed above for their city to 274448. Then, enter your zip code and date-of-birth of your child. Privacy is guaranteed and the state, as well as our community partners, will not have direct access to that information. The content that is messaged will be customized based on the child’s age. Start Smart Texas has partnered with Bright By Three to launch this texting pilot campaign, called Bright by Text, that will leverage the power of communities to empower parents to be a partner in their child’s development and learning. Bright By Text is a free parent and caregiver texting service that sends tips and resources promoting child development, targeted to a child’s age from 0 to 8 years of age. The program is designed to be relevant to today’s families, providing quality information and trusted resources to any caregiver. The messages are comprised of research-based content from Bright by Three and other trusted providers, such as PBS Kids, PBS Parents, Vroom, Fred Rogers, and Sesame Workshop.
